Abstract

This paper examines the linguistic and methodological challenges involved in translating environmental and ecological terminology from English into Uzbek. With the rapid escalation of global environmental issues, English has emerged as the dominant language for ecological research, policy, and international discourse. Consequently, accurately rendering complex English ecological terms into Uzbek is critical for effective scientific communication, policy implementation, and public awareness. This study analyzes the primary translation strategies currently deployed—including exact equivalent matching, structural calquing, descriptive translation, and direct adoption—while highlighting major obstacles such as terminological inconsistency, semantic distortion, and a lack of specialized lexicographical resources. Finally, concrete recommendations are proposed to standardize Uzbek ecological terminology.
